Love Our Colleges

This week is Colleges Week, we will be celebrating all the fantastic work that Colleges do, the fantastic students and staff and the fantastic partnerships we build both within the local community and beyond. #LoveOurColleges

Day five of "5 Reasons to Love Your College" focuses on teaching and learning. We will be exploring various ways that Alton College staff are using innovative methods of teaching and guidance.

In September 2017 we completely restructured the College day following academic research into the benefits of a later start for teenagers. You can read more about our innovative approach to timetabling here

Alton College has a wealth of brilliant teachers. Here are three who joined us in September 2018 for the new academic year. Welcome to Alton College!

We are leading the way in Extended Work Placement provision for our Engineering students.

Day four of "5 Reasons to Love Your College" is focussing on the brilliant support network that is available at Alton College from Learning Support to Health and Wellbeing.

We also have a College Chaplain for staff and students to chat to if they need any pastoral support

There are all kinds of support on offer here at Alton College as outlined here by one of our many Learning Support Assistants.

We have a brilliant Welfare team available to students, led by Vanessa Edworthy.

In addition to the amazing teaching staff, Alton College has a brilliant Business Support Staff helping students with all sorts of things on a daily basis. Here is one of our Student Support members, our UCAS co-ordinator Kim Small.

Today we start with Head of Learning Support, Lizzy Ryan.

Day three of "5 Reasons to Love Your College" will focus on the reason we're all here, our amazing students. We will be celebrating some of the successes of current and past students throughout the day.

Some of our students love Alton College so much that they return as staff members. Here are just some of our current staff who also studied here as students in the past.

Last year 90% of our students went onto Higher and Further Education and employment. Many of our students, including Iseabail, take their studies to the highest level.

Our fantastic Students' Union contribute so much to the success of the College, brilliantly representing the Student Voice.

Our students go on to all sorts of exciting things after leaving College, whether it's uni, apprenticeships or employment. Here are a few famous faces who are all Alton College alumni!

One of our brilliant alumni is Andy Plom who is currently Head of Commercial Video at Eagle Radio. Earlier this year, Andy returned to campus to film and produce our new College video.

Day two of "5 Reasons to Love Your College will focus on our partnerships, inlcuding Unloc, NCS, Chelsea FC, UCA Thrive and Treloars.

Our ongoing partnership with Treloar School is invaluable. Here is Jasper, one of our Treloars Media Students. He is also an active member of Alton College Students' Union representing the student voice.

Our latest partnership is with Chelsea FC Foundation. We are really excited to be working with the Foundation this year and in 2019 we will offer an AC Football Academy and a range of opportunities for Sport, Marketing and STEM students. Find out more about the partnership here.

Alton College is an official "Education Partner" of Leeds College of Music which means our Music students participate in workshops and are guaranteed an audition at Leeds College of Music when applying for Higher Education courses.

We are proud to be a UCA Thrive: Creative Careers Partner. Amanda Couch from UCA provided a presentation yesterday to some of our Art students on writing Personal Statements

Starting with a message of support from the brilliant Hayden Taylor of Unloc.
