Alton College

Welcome from the Principal

Jane Machell, Alton College Principal

I am delighted to welcome you to Alton College.

We are one of only a very few Colleges in the country to be judged by Ofsted as Outstanding: Grade 1 in all five areas of inspection. Ofsted were impressed by the outstanding achievements of our students and the excellent support and guidance given by staff.

Alton College is a Sixth Form College specialising in education for 16-18 year olds. Our staff are selected because of their experience and expertise in teaching and learning and for providing high levels of support and care for sixth formers. We welcome students who are suitably qualified and motivated to achieve their personal ambitions. At Alton, you will find a hard-working, purposeful and enjoyable atmosphere for sixth form study. Universities and employers often comment on how well-qualified and well-prepared our students are for the challenges and responsibilities of university life and the workplace.

At Alton, you will receive the best guidance, advice and care. Your teachers will get to know you well as an individual. Your tutor will support and guide you throughout your time with us. We have a reputation for being a supportive, friendly and welcoming College and are sure that you will make new and long-lasting friendships.

Alton College is a purpose-built Sixth Form College with award winning "state of the art" buildings especially designed for sixth form study. Our most recent buildings include a new "Beacon Science Centre", a Learning Resources Centre with expansive open access IT facilities and Library and a new Sports Hall. In September 2006, we opened the Michael Gray Art and Music Centre.

In September 2008 two buildings were opened, one for Performing Arts and the other to include English, Humanities, Media and Film, which will incorporate world-class facilities such as TV and Radio Studios.

We will give you the opportunity to achieve success on your chosen course, develop a sense of independence and enjoy the highest standards of specialist sixth form teaching, learning and support.

I hope you find our website useful and informative in choosing your courses and keeping up-to-date with College news.

We look forward to meeting you.
