Course Content:

The Level 2 Certificate is a generic qualification that will be relevant across the Children and Young People's Workforce.  It is mapped to the CWDC Induction Standards and the Children's Care, Learning and Development Occupational Standards and its main purpose will be to act as a bridging qualification towards the Level 3 Early Years Education and Care Diploma.

The qualification will also provide an inclusive pathway for entrants to the workforce across the Children's workforce.  It will confer occupational competence to work under the supervision and enable practitioners to count in the ratio at Level 2 identified in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

  • Introduction to Communication
  • Introduction to Personal Development
  • Support children and young people's safety

Studying at Alton College:

To achieve the Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce, learners must achieve 31 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 4 credits from the optional units available, making a total of 35 credits.

You will study a number of units over the 30 weeks covering a range of childcare related subjects, which give you an understanding of children and their development.

This will provide a broad understanding of the Children and Young People's Workforce sector and an introduction to the practical skills and knowledge required and give an awareness of the range of jobs and work settings in the children and young people's sector.

This 30 week course includes 2.5 hours underpinning in college, candidates will be expected to complete about 5 hours of Professional Practice, which will include your work role, as well as a minimum of 2 hours per week private study.

Assessment:

You will follow a City and Guilds assessment pack and you will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence as well as written assignments which will be internally and externally verified.

Progression:

Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education & Care (Early Years Educator)

Entry Requirements:

A good basic understanding of English and Maths is required.

Course Costs:

£900 Tuition fee.

Assessment, underpinning, registration and certification.

Funding:

This is a Skills Funding Agency course and you may be exempt from the tuition fee, however you would be required to pay the examination fee at the time of enrolment. Tuition fees for overseas students may vary from those quoted.
