General Information 2011-12

Monday and Wednesday 8.30 am – 9.00 pm
Tuesday and Thursday 8.30 am – 5.00 pm

There is no charge for any of these services
Reduction in Fees
You may be entitled to a reduction in fees for Skills Funding Agency funded courses if you are under 19 on 31 August 2011 or in receipt of Job Seeker's Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance (WRAG) or if you are studying for your first Level 2 or Level 3 qualification. Please ask for the guidelines if you are applying for Remission of Tuition Fees.

What you can expect from us

What we expect from you
- Please keep to appointment times and let us know if you wish to cancel or rearrange
- Please let us know when you are not able to attend a class. If four consecutive weeks pass without notification, we reserve the right to withdraw you from the course and no refund will be offered
- Alton College does not allow smoking on the campus
- We look forward to your comments on the services we offer

(We will review our service in the light of feedback every six months and make changes accordingly.)
Other College Facilities
The only car park is at the rear of the college off Edward Road. Daytime students whose course is over 6 weeks in duration will need to purchase a parking permit, however, this does not guarantee a parking space. Application forms are available from your tutor or at the main Reception. Students on JSA or ESA (WRAG) claiming 'Remission of Tuition Fees' or students attending 'Skills for Life' courses are exempt from this payment.
There is a College Childcare Centre for all daytime sessions during term time. You will need to book a place as demand is high. Please ask for details.
There is a cafeteria at college that is open during the day. During the evening the Amigo Shop is open or there are vending machines offering drinks and snacks.
Cancellation of Courses
If we have to cancel a session due to unforeseen circumstances we will try to let you know as soon as we can. It is important that you supply telephone numbers on your enrolment form to enable us to contact you.
In the case of adverse weather conditions please check the college website or the college answerphone and listen to local radio stations.
Refunds:
In the event of you being unable to commence your course, the following notice periods will apply. Refunds may take up to 28 days to process.
- 28+ days prior to the start of course Full Refund
- 27 – 14 days prior to the start of course 75% Refund
- 13 days or less prior to the start of course No Refund
We are unable to provide a refund if you decide to withdraw after your programme of study has commenced.
If there is a medical reason why you cannot commence or continue your course, please write to the Head of Faculty with responsibility for Adult Courses, including a doctor’s certificate, to ask for special consideration. The refund will be pro-rata depending on the classes attended.
