ALTON COLLEGE AND CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB 

Alton College is proud of its long-standing history of delivering high-quality academic and enrichment opportunities and for its innovative approach to education. We are delighted to continue in this tradition by announcing that from September 2019 we will be working with the Chelsea Football Club Foundation (CFCF). 

Developments in 2018/19 

During the academic year 2018/19, CFCF will be offering one hour per week of football or fitness coaching to local secondary schools for the whole academic year. Training will be delivered by fully qualified and validated Chelsea FC coaches 

The Chelsea Football Club / Alton College Football Academy 

We will be launching the Chelsea Football Club / Alton College Football Academy from September 2019, and prospective students will have the opportunity to try out for this activity. If successful, students will benefit from: 

  • 6 hours of training per week by a qualified, Chelsea FC approved coach
  • Compete in national football tournaments
  • Opportunities to train at the prestigious Chelsea Football Club training ground in Cobham, Surrey
  • Study towards FA coaching and / or refereeing badge
  • Study towards the Sports Leadership Award Level 2
  • Opportunities to visit the home of Chelsea Football Club, Stamford Bridge

CFCF will be actively involved in supporting STEM students at the College. Students with a passion for Sports Medicine, Psychology, Engineering and Chemistry will have opportunities to meet and talk with Chelsea FC staff, leaders and innovators in these fields.  

Students will also have the opportunity to visit and view the world-class facilities at the Chelsea FC training ground in Cobham, Surrey. 

Supporting students with special educational needs 

Both Alton College and CFCF have strong traditions in working with people with special educational needs and so we are delighted to announce that from September 2018, Chelsea Football Club will be delivering 90 minutes per week of football / fitness training to our SEND students.  

Students will also have the opportunity to take part in training and competitions at the Chelsea training ground in Cobham, Surrey. If successful, these students may also have the chance to take part in international competitions, travelling around the world to represent the College and the club.  

Sports Pathways at Alton College 

In conjunction with the extensive work with Chelsea Football Club, Alton College will also be delivering Sports Pathways, bespoke progression routes for students in Year 10 / 11 through College and beyond. From September 2019, we will be delivering the first three of these Sports Pathways: 

  • Sports Excellence
  • Sports and STEM
  • Business and Marketing in Sport 

Each package has activities that students can engage with prior to starting the College, a list of the available and most suitable courses and enrichments and details of the support available to progress. 

Sports Excellence Pathway 

This package is specifically aimed at students working towards becoming future professional or semi-professional sports men or women.  

The Alton College timetable perfectly fits students who are pursuing this ambition – the later start at 10am and guaranteed four half-days non-contact time allow students to undertake training and competition without unduly impacting their studies.

  • A level Physical Education
  • Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma in Sport (3 A level equivalent)

After Alton College  Foundation degree in Football Education, Coaching and Development at St Mary’s University, Twickenham 

 

Sports and STEM Pathway 

 This package is specifically aimed at students pursuing a career in STEM subjects within sport – this may be Sports Medicine or Psychology, the fast developing area of Sports Engineering, or Biochemistry.  

Alton College is the number one choice for students studying STEM in East Hampshire. Our specialist staff include doctors in Mathematics and Biology and others with a wealth of experience in industry positions. Students will also benefit from our Aspire Programme designed to support high-achieving students reach their potential and go on to study at the top national and international universities.  

Before starting Alton College 

Chelsea FC football / fitness coaching  

Students will have the opportunity to attend College talks by Chelsea FC staff. We will also send out guest lecturers from our staff to speak. Both sets of talks will feature a diverse range of topics including Sports Engineering, Biomechanics and Sports Psychology. 

Studying at Alton College  Students could study one or more of the following qualifications: 
  • A level qualifications in the Sciences, Maths and Product Design
  • Vocational qualifications at level 2 and 3 in Engineering

Business and Marketing in Sport Pathway 

This package is specifically aimed at students pursuing a career in the business and marketing of sports. 

Students will benefit from a range of business opportunities available to students, including visits to the marketing department at Chelsea FC to learn about managing an international brand, studying towards our new Marketing Communications qualification or taking part in competitions with a national youth enterprise organisation, Unloc.  

 

Students will also benefit from our Aspire Programme designed to support high achieving students reach their potential and go on to study at the top national and international universities.

Studying at Alton College 

Students could study one or more of the following qualifications:  

A level and vocational qualifications in Business, Economics, Media or Marketing Communications
