Alton Jitsu
Thursdays
7.30-9.30pm in the Forum Hall
For ages 17+. First lesson free. £5/session thereafter.
About the art:
Shorinji Kan Jiu Jitsu (Jitsu for short) is a martial art based around the principle of using an attacker's momentum and aggression against them through as system of strikes, throws, joint locks and pins. The classical styles of Jiu Jitsu were developed by Samurai as a system of functional unarmed battlefield combat, where the abundance of armour meant that striking techniques were of limited use, so instead the focus was shifted to grappling and joint locking. After the end of the Samurai era, Jiu Jitsu schools and techniques survived and would go on to provide the foundations of Judo, Aikido and modern systems of Jiu Jitsu.
Today, Jitsu is practised as a non-competitive martial art for self defence, fitness and self development, under the umbrella of The Jitsu Foundation - the national governing body that oversees all Jitsu clubs in the UK and organises annual national events.
About the Club:
Alton Jitsu Club trains from 7pm to 9pm every Thursday in the Berkoff Performing Arts Centre, under the instruction of Sensei Tom Van Dongen, a former College student.
For your first session you just need to wear loose clothing - Your first session is free and open to all levels of fitness and experience!
As with all Jitsu clubs, the club is a non-profit organisation and open to anyone aged 17 and above. Please note that if you are under 18 you will need a Parent/Guardian to sign a consent form.
