The Learning Club

The Learning Club offers fun courses for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. Students should bring their own carer to each session.

We are currently offering Expressive Movement and Healthy Living and Arts and Crafts (see details below). We will be offering cookery in the new year, please email Tina Osgood for further information.

Tuesdays

The Learning Club - Arts and Crafts Course

A 10 week arts and crafts course on Tuesday mornings starting on 17th January from 10.00 to 11.45am. The course dates are: January 17th, 24th, 31st, February 7th, 14th, 28th, March 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th. Cost: £35

We will make collages, prints, paintings, books and paper.We will create butterflies, urban landscapes, people with dog's heads, owls and magazines. We will have fun with feathers, bubble wrap, spots, stripes, old books, glitter, shiny things, patterns and lots of things to inspire us.

The student and carer should come dressed appropriately, with painting aprons or other protective clothing, as the College cannot take responsibility for any spoilt or damaged clothes.

Thursdays

The Learning Club - Expressive Movement and Healthy Living

The course involves expressing yourself through dance and drama activities. You will also take part in fitness activities, which may include: dance, aerobics, yoga and Pilates, team games, the multi-gym. You may also learn about healthy living, good diet and personal hygiene. The course will work on improving co-ordination and memory. The course takes place in the Dance Studio of the Wessex Arts Centre at Alton College.

In each two hour session participants will complete 45 minutes of dance, drama, creative activities, working towards one big dance per five week block. Then participants will have a short coffee break, in the Wessex Arts Centre café. This gives participants practise in ordering drinks. It also gives them the chance to develop their social skills further.  In the last 45 minutes participants will work on a fitness activity, changing every five weeks. The first block will be team building games, involving balls, bean bags and hoops.
