Free Jazz Improvisation Workshop

Alton College is proud to offer this free of charge Improvisation Workshop with Sam Bullard and in partnership with Hampshire Music Services.

We are thrilled to announce a series of free of charge jazz and improvisation workshops tailored for young musicians who want to get a feel for the music. This taster session will be followed by an ongoing course led by leading jazz educators.

These workshops will be a great opportunity for young musicians to learn and play jazz with professional musicians.

The workshops will be focusing on creative music making in groups with the emphasis on playing rather than sight-reading.

Students will learn how to learn and play jazz tunes by ear; be encouraged to explore improvisation; and learn how to perform together in a jazz ensemble.

These skills will not only help you to develop as musician but also give you a better understanding of your current music courses (such as GCSE Music and BTEC Level 2 in Music Performance).

Taking these workshops will give young musicians an insight into the Specialist Jazz Course at Alton College and it’s acclaimed ensemble the Alton College Jazz Collective. Many of the former students have gone on to study music, some to Music Conservatoire Jazz courses such as the Guildhall School of Music and Trinity College of Music, others at Universities. The collective performs regularly in term time and will be performing specially for the young musicians who take part in the workshops.

This session will run from 5.00-6.15pm in the Ormond Room, Michael Gray Building, Alton College.

Please come along with your instrument or voice!
