The National Youth Jazz Collective at Alton College

The National Youth Jazz Collective

The National Youth Jazz Collective will run improvisation sessions in three groups beginner, intermediate and advanced. These will be led by Issie Barrett, founder and Artistic Director of the National Youth Jazz Collective along with Mick Foster, Simon Colam and Mark Hodgson. Music will be learned from scratch, with the focus being on improvisation. The workshops will run from 10am until 5pm.

In the evening, each group will present the results of their workshop interspersed with music from the NYJC to a public audience. The performance will start at 6pm, in the Forum Hall, Alton College. This is an excellent opportunity for young players to develop their improvisational skills under the guidance of National Youth Jazz Collective players, and for the more advanced players - who perhaps might be considering studying jazz at a higher level, to pick up audition tips for NYJC Summer School or music college auditions.

Venue: Forum Hall, Alton College

Bookings for workshop: via the online store.

Evening performance: FREE, no need to book.
