The Learning Club offers a variety of fun courses for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities to attend with their carers.

Arts and Crafts Course 

This course will be starting on Tuesday 17th January. It will run in room 524 in the Stevens Building from 10:00 to 11:45 for 10 weeks.

Learners and carers will need to bring protective garments as paint and glue will be used during these sessions.

What does this course involve? During this course you will make collages, prints, paintings, books and paper and create butterflies, urban landscapes, people with dogs' heads, owls and magazines. We will have fun with feathers, bubble wrap, spots, stripes, old books, glitter, shiny things, patterns and lots of things to inspire us.

Cookery Workshops

We are planning cookery workshops for the New Year.

What does this course involve? The course will focus on: knife skills, meat and fish cookery, sauces, pastry and bread.

Examples of dishes we will be cooking include onion, bacon and cheese quiche, chicken curry with almonds, rosemary and sea salt focaccia, chocolate profiteroles, salmon and dill fishcakes and lasagne.

About the tutor Kate Hughes: "I have been a senior teacher at Leith's School of Food and Wine in London where I trained 20 years ago and have had my own cookery school for 10 years and currently teach for Newlyn's Cookery School in Odiham."

Please make sure that both the student and carer are dressed appropriately, cooking aprons will be provided.

Expressive Movement and Health Living Course

Currently we are running an Expressive Movement and Healthy Living course for four weeks starting on 10th November 2016. It takes place in the Dance Studio of the Wessex Arts Centre at Alton College on Thursdays from 1-3pm.

If you are paying for more than one place please add them one at a time to your basket. You will then be able to complete the personal information we ask for on each individual. Thank you

What does this course involve? The course involves expressing yourself through dance and drama activities. You will also take part in fitness activities, which may include: dance, aerobics, yoga and Pilates, team games, the multi-gym. You may also learn about healthy living, good diet and personal hygiene. The course will work on improving co-ordination and memory.

In each two hour session participants will complete 45 minutes of dance, drama, creative activities, working towards one big dance per five week block. Then participants will have a short coffee break. This gives participants practise in requesting drinks. It also gives them the chance to develop their social skills further.  In the last 45 minutes participants will work on a fitness activity, changing every five weeks. The first block will be team building games, involving balls, bean bags and hoops.
