Alton College Band Showcase

Well over twenty five second year Alton College students are intensively rehearsing for Oakfest - an Alton College Band Showcase, that will take place at the Royal Oak in Hollywater during the afternoon and early evening of Sunday 29th May.

Seven bands and one solo act - performing between them a really wide variety of music, are preparing for their final assessment of the Rock Award - an accredited Rock School Level 3 qualification, which - as part of the assessment, requires the various acts to perform a twenty five minute set.

The course is run by two of Alton College's instrumental staff - guitarist John Moline, and bass player Vic Cox. During the first year of the course, students attend weekly workshops where they run a variety of different tunes from different styles and genres. Whilst in their second year, the musicians are formed into bands which rehearse regularly. Throughout the year the various bands have a weekly performance opportunity, a termly Open Mic Nite, and the final band showcase.  John and Vic will be ably assisted on the gig by soundman - Nich 'Mr Technology' Harvey and his assistant Hal Jones - who will also be performing as a solo act.
