Alton College Rugby success

This year, Alton College Rugby team have had a very good season, finishing second overall in the Hampshire College Sport Association league. This league consists of a number of colleges throughout the county including local rivals, QMC, Farnborough Sixth Form College and Peter Symonds College. Having finished second in the league, the team made it through to the playoffs held at Trojans RFC in Southampton where they played Peter Symonds. After a tight first half, the game remained scoreless going into the break. Alton conceded two late tries in the second half, but scored one of their own to reduce the deficit, but this was not enough to avoid being knocked out of the play offs final.

They then played a runners up game against Farnborough Sixth Form College where they put the previous match behind them and ran in four unanswered tries for the win and to end their season on a high.

While the season did not finish with silverware, the players enjoyed a successful campaign and have found the rugby programme at Alton College an added bonus to their academic life. Work and training is now underway to prepare for the 2015/2016 season to replicate the success shown this season. Anyone studying at Alton College is welcome to trials for the rugby team irrespective of subjects studied. Find out more about Sporting Activities run as Enrichment programmes here
