Andy carries Olympic Torch through Poole

Last year, Andy was unknowingly nominated by a friend to carry the Olympic flame as part of the build-up to the summer of sport. When he found out his name had been put forward, little did he expect to be a success with the judges and now find himself preparing to carry the flame in Poole.

Andy is currently finishing his first year at Alton College after studying at Weydon School where he was nominated for this prestigious opportunity. As a passionate musician, he participated in most school performances, helped behind the scenes at shows, supported the organisation of trips and even plays The Last Post every year.

As well as balancing work for his AS levels in IT, English Literature and Electronics, he is also focused on keeping fit and training hard to become a Royal Marine Officer when he leaves College.

He said: “I have wanted to join the Royal Marine Commandos since I was around four years old and I am currently going through the recruitment process. This is my goal because I wish to help others in need and would love to serve my country. I want to inspire people with both my passions by showing that if you set your mind to something and follow it through to the very end you can always live your dreams.”

“I can’t wait for the excitement and the atmosphere of my run. I’m really pleased because I’ll be lucky enough to keep the torch afterwards!”

You can track the progress of the Olympic Torch and read about all the Torchbearers through the official London 2012 website.
