Brecon Beacons Expedition

As part of the BTEC Public Services course, students are given the opportunity to take part in a week long-field trip to take part in exciting outdoor activities and team-building exercises. A large group of students and four staff recently travelled to the Hampshire Mountain Centre in the Brecon Beacons in South Wales and completed two expeditions, caving, gorge walking, or climbing.  The weather was awful for three days and made the going tough for all the students, but they were all determined to succeed and they all achieved distinctions for the BTEC practical element of their modules - Expeditions and completing adventurous activities. All the students showed real grit and determination to overcome their fears in all sorts of places and finished to the best of their abilities, demonstrating the skills of resilience, courage, decision making, initiative and self-motivation. Students also learnt about timekeeping, action planning, leadership, verbal communication, teamwork and flexibility.  All students have grown with this experience which will help when writing Personal Statements to go to University, or seeking an apprenticeship with leading organisations or assisting them in making good career choices.
