Challenging Maths Success

The Senior Maths Team finished an exceptional 13th out of 86 teams in the National Finals of the UK Senior Team Maths Challenge in London recently. The team (pictured with Dave Lynch, Curriculum Manager for Maths) comprising of Chris Hughes (previously at Amery Hill School), Ali Bayliss (previously at Perins), Paul Cumner (previously at Robert May’s School) and Will Young (previously at The Petersfield School) competed in several challenges including a Crossnumber round  and a shuttle round in which they achieved 100%. The two second year students, Ali and Chris, have just been offered places to study at Cambridge and Oxford Universities respectively, Ali to study Economics at Churchill College and Chris to study Maths at St John's College.

It is the fourth time in five years that the College Maths Team has qualified for the National Finals previously taking first place (the only state school or College to win the competition), second place and eleventh.

Other schools and colleges taking part in the competition included a mix of independent and state schools and colleges: Charterhouse School, Exeter Mathematics School, Harrow School, Hills Road SFC, Kings College London Maths School, Reading School, RGS Guildford, Rugby School and Westminster School
