Childcare Centre gets Green Fingers
The Alton College Childcare Centre was given free edible trees from the Woodland Trust and Sainsbury's Active Kids. Toddlers from the group braved the cold and used their green fingers to plant the saplings in the College grounds.
Barabara Wills, the Childcare Centre Manager said “The children will benefit from the trees as they learn and watch how they grow through the seasons.”
When the trees mature they will not only provide shelter and habitats, but also edible nuts and fruit. The pack contained dog rose, elder, cherry plum, hazel, crab apple and blackthorn saplings.
Sainsbury’s store manager Daryl Copper said: “This is a great activity for children to start to learn about their local environment.”
