Composers in Residence

Congratulations to three young composers from Alton College.
Just recently Hannah Dilkes and Richard Hames were shortlisted and interviewed to be the National Youth Orchestra composer in residence, with Richard being selected as a composer in residence. Whilst on Saturday, Thomas Blumire was fortunate to have his pieces played by the Britten Sinfonia - at the Warehouse in Waterloo, and commented on by composer James MacMillan.
On Thursday 21st October, jazz composer Kenny Wheeler will be running a workshop at the College with young jazz musicians, which will focus on his compositions. Later that day, the young musicians will attend a concert in the Anvil performed by the Kenny Wheeler Big Band. And then on Thursday 24th March, James MacMillan will visit Alton College to meet with young composers and talk about his music, in preparation for an evening concert in the Anvil where he will be conducting the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in a programme of his music.
