Cutting edge Sonardyne Centre now open

Months of waiting came to an end as Professor Robert Winston opened the £3 million new state-of-the-art Engineering and Design Technology Building: The Sonardyne Centre. Thanks to the generous support of a number of individuals, charitable trusts and corporate organisations we have successfully raised the funds to complete the building work on time and on budget. Fundraising continues as we work towards the last £150,000 needed to fully furnish all classrooms with the latest equipment.

Before cutting the ribbon, Prof Winston presented to a select group of Alton College students. Due to the high demand tickets were balloted and 100 lucky students were selected at random. The lecture was live tweeted find it @altoncollege

The famous scientist, medical doctor, TV presenter and member of the House of Lords, was as equally at home in our fantastic performing arts theatre as he is in an operating theatre. In 1969 Prof Winston was awarded the National Director's Award at the Edinburgh Festival. More recently in August he told The Telegraph he'd been inspired to make a 3D film after seeing 'This is Us' (a film about boy band of our time, One Direction) which was produced by his son Ben Winston.
