Duke of Edinburgh Award

Congratulations to Thomas Howe, previously at Dove House School, who was recently presented with his award for completing the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. The presentation was held in Petersfield and the special guest was Tess Burrows, a writer and adventurer who, amongst other things, has walked to the south pole and set up the charity Climb for Tibet to raise money for schooling in Tibet.

Thomas completed the silver Duke of Edinburgh through the 2nd Alton Boys Brigade. For the skills section he played the bass drum in the Boys Brigade band leading Alton's Remembrance Parade for the past couple of years. For the physical skills, Thomas attended the Results Gym in town and improved his fitness levels. For volunteering he set out to improve his leadership skills with the younger boys in Boys Brigade and also helped run the tuck shop. The expedition section of the award was undertaken in Shropshire/Welsh borders last September . Thomas said  'My favourite part of completing the silver Duke of Edinburgh was being on expedition and watching the clear night sky with all the stars out.'

Thomas has also completed bronze and diamond level DofE awards and has signed up to start the gold level; he is currently researching different volunteering opportunities with the watercress line.
