FREE jazz workshop

Our very own Specialist Jazz teacher Sam Bullard is running a FREE jazz workshop on Wednesday 11th December 5 - 6.15pm. Book your place now!

It could inspire you to become as awesome as Jazz musician Laura Jurd, Alton College alumna (pictured), who appeared on Radio 4's Woman's Hour and the London Jazz Festival last week.

The free workshops are courtesy of the Southern Jazz Centre; a fantastic community project supported by a growing number of music and specialist jazz courses available to school leavers. Alton College was named as home to the SJC in the summer. Following the announcement we launched with an amazing Jazz Festival which included the brilliant Julian Joseph performing to a delighted crowd of students and staff.

Some of you may know Specialist Jazz teacher and free workshop leader Sam from his great lessons at college but did you know he recently appeared on ITV’s hit drama Downton Abbey playing the clarinet in American jazz singer Jack Ross’s band? He explained he enjoyed the experience but he's not giving up his day job for a TV career just yet. He said: 'I love playing and teaching music - it's a huge part of my life'.

Former Alton College student Laura Jurd featured on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour last weekend ahead of a busy week at the London Jazz Festival. The trumpeter is ‘fast becoming an essential mover and shaker on the London scene’ according to event promoters and will gig on four dates during the festival in her quartet and larger orchestras.

Visit the college on Open Evening on 26th November from 3.30-8pm to meet our famous music department and to explore the professionally equipped music and performing arts departments.
