International Geographical Olympiad

Congratulations to first year Geography student Alex Teeuw, previously at The Petersfield School, on being one of only four students in the whole of the country to be selected to represent the UK at the 2019 International Geographical Olympiad (iGEO) in Hong Kong. The Olympiad will consist of the four 16-19 year olds competing against teams from around the world in a week of multimedia geography tests, fieldwork, excursions and the opportunity to share their perceptions of the world through presentations and cultural events.

To enter the competition to gain his place at iGEO, Alex completed three standard A level-style essay questions which gave him the opportunity to explore his interest in upland environments and ecology. On being informed of his success, Alex said “I am really surprised to have been chosen to represent the UK, but extremely proud of myself and excited about the opportunity to visit Hong Kong in the summer. It is a really interesting place with a mix of Eastern and Western cultures and a fascinating place to explore human and physical geography.”

We wish Alex the best of luck and look forward to hearing all about his experience in August.
