Jazz evening sell-out success

Hailed as a ‘sax virtuoso’ by Downbeat Magazine, Snidero spent many years touring with the Mingus Big Band and is well established as one of the top alto sax players in the world.

He has recorded and performed with the biggest names in jazz, including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Maria Schneider and Kenny Kirkland.

The AC Big Band, who will join Snidero, comprises of students from Alton College. The College has a national reputation for the quality of its jazz education and numerous alumni are now established in successful careers. Composer and trumpeter, Laura Jurd, bassist Connor Chaplin and members of the World Service Project band all studied at Alton College.

Snidero is internationally considered to be one of the most influential jazz educators. As an author, his books are used in thousands of schools throughout the world; they are best sellers that have changed the way jazz is taught. He also finds time to teach at various institutions including Princeton University.

This performance is the first of many for the newly established Wessex Arts Centre. A pioneering project based at Alton College in Hampshire, Wessex Arts Centre will not only offer first class entertainment but also give young people and the local community the chance to interact and work with major artists from various creative disciplines.
