National music success from Alton College

Congratulations are due to Alton College student Hannah Dilkes who has been selected as one of the winners of the BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers Competition 2011.

On August 6th, Hannah's setting of Spike Milligan's 'Ning, Nang, Nong' & 'Bongaloo' will be performed by the Aurora Orchestra - conducted by Nicholas Collon, at the Royal College of Music prior to the National Youth Orchestra Prom later that evening. Whilst this won't be the first performance of these pieces - they have been performed at the Farnham Festival, St John's Church in Alresford, Winchester Cathedral and Alton College by the Alton College Composers Ensemble, this will be their first professional performance. [Performances of both pieces can be heard on the Alton College Music MySpace page

Just recently Hannah completed her A level exams, Composers Extended Certificate and Jazz Certificate and last week achieved a merit in her grade 8 trombone exam.

During the summer, Hannah will be spending time on the Sound & Music residential Summer School for composers at the Purcell School, for which she has been lucky to receive a full bursary. Good preparation for starting in September a 4 year undergraduate course at Trinity Laban Conservatoire in composition and trombone.
