Nursing Know-how

Health and Social Care students welcomed ex-student Fleur Walker back to College this week to discuss her progression from College into the nursing profession. Fleur, previously at Eggar’s School, completed her Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care gaining three Distinction Stars (the equivalent to 3 A* at A level) in 2013 and went on to the University of Southampton to study for a degree in Nursing. She is now a Staff Nurse on a paediatric ward at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford, having graduated last year.

Returning to College to work with current students, Fleur used a case study to enable the students to explore some of the ethical considerations when nursing very young children, she discussed safeguarding and non-accidental injuries and the difficulties which might arise when approaching parents about concerns.

One of Fleur’s past teachers Nicola Maxfield, Curriculum Manager for Health & Social Care said ‘It was lovely to see how confident Fleur has become and to witness her wide breadth of knowledge in her role which includes liaising with schools and colleges. She was a really inspirational speaker for our students.’
