Outstanding OFSTED report for nursery
Alton College is celebrating an Outstanding Ofsted report following a visit to its on-site nursery by school inspectors during the summer. The nursery was also previously graded Outstanding in 2011. The Inspector described the nursery as having ‘a highly stimulating environment, both indoors and out’ and explained how ‘children have the freedom to choose where they want to be.’ The report states that the children are ‘very independent and develop extremely well’, they make ‘excellent progress’ and that ‘excellent support’ is provided for those children moving to school.
The report goes on to praise the effectiveness of staff describing how they provide ‘expert support’ and ‘feel valued and appreciated and are comfortable to share their feelings, views and needs.’
Gayle Bicknell, Textiles Teacher, has used the nursery for the past two years. She said: ‘Having adopted my son from Africa and having been through the very lengthy process that is involved in this, I was understandably concerned about sending my child to nursery. I needn’t have worried at all! He has flourished in this amazing environment. He has been truly nurtured and over the last two year has developed from toddler into a confident, determined and kind little boy. I know that this wonderful place has been instrumental in helping him, thank you!’.
Barbara Wills, Nursery Manager, was delighted by the news and so were the rest of her team. She explained: ‘We are very pleased we have received our second Outstanding Ofsted report, our dedicated and specialist staff work very hard and the report certainly reflects this’.
To mark the occasion children and staff from the nursery travelled across campus to the front of College and were treated to a special trip on Alton College’s liveried Stagecoach bus. As the sun was shining, the children were able to wear the same wayfarer sunglasses as their older college counterparts did at the annual WelcomeFest summer event. Singing nursery rhymes such as ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ added to the excitement. Barbara Wills explained this was the first time some of the children had ever been on a bus. She said: ‘It was brilliant to celebrate our outstanding news with a little trip on the College Stagecoach bus, the children loved it!’.
Alton College Nursery is located on the College’s campus. It provides day care for children aged 6 months to 5 years of staff, students and local families. It is open 8-5.30pm daily in term time.
