Perins School Year 10s: Engineers for the day!

Sixty Year 10 pupils from Alton College partner school Perins, in Alresford, spent the day making circuit boards in our state-of-the-art Sonardyne Centre for Engineering and Design Technology, as part of a bespoke taster visit to the department.

Chris Norman, teacher of Engineering was delighted to welcome the pupils and said: 'We planned lots of exciting hands-on activities which included soldering components into circuits, vacuum forming a case then laser cutting a base and using the 3D printer to make a belt clip'. He added: 'We'd re-cut the bases with 'Alton College and Perins School' so they have a great momento to take home!'.

Pupil Mia Fourte is currently studying DT at school said she'd thoroughly enjoyed the day and was now planning on applying for Alton College. She said: 'It was amazing using all the equipment, I love doing this, its what I want to do!'.

The day also included a careers presentation on STEM careers which Alton College is passionate about promoting. We have a special STEM Ambassader for the College, Dawn Elson, Head of Engineering at Gatwick Airport. Read more about her here.
