Semi-finals of the LTA Aegon National Championships
The Alton college boys’ tennis team are delighted to have reached the semi-final of the LTA Aegon National Championships. The boys played excellent tennis throughout the competition and beat local rivals Queen Mary’s College and Marlborough College (B) on their route to the semi final. The spot was confirmed even after missing out by four games to two against Marlborough College (A) on Tuesday evening. They were just one game away from the regional final against Aylesbury Grammar School which would then lead onto the National Finals to be held at Queenswood School, Hertfordshire, in July.
The players will now however, go on to compete for the Hampshire Colleges trophy along with Brockenhurst College, Farnborough 6th form, Peter Symonds College and Queens Mary’s College. Kingsley Tennis Centre in Alton has supported the College team by allowing them to play fixtures at their superb facilities. The four indoor hard courts mean the weather is never a problem but the two outdoor clay courts are also made good use of when possible.
Three members of the team play their regular club fixtures with Kingsley and enjoy the friendly and welcoming family-run club.
