Students' Union Elections

Are you interested in standing for a position on the new Students’ Union? The election for the 2019-20 Executive will take place on Wednesday 13th February 2019 in the LRC and will be a paper ballot rather than online as in previous years.

The hustings will take place on Tuesday 12th February at lunchtime (location tbc - Martin Read Hall or Wessex Arts) and the results of the vote will be announced in public and via a forum post online to all students at lunchtime on Friday 15th February.

In order to run for a specific role within the SU and in doing so become a member of the executive, candidates need to submit the application form which was sent out to all students earlier in the week via Moodle and return it to room 68 by Friday 8th February at the very latest. They will then be able to campaign for their chosen positions however they choose (as long as they stay within the guidelines laid out to them by the SU executive). Candidates' statements of motivation and suitability will be placed online for all students to access. There will be a hustings but this is only compulsory for those candidates wishing to run for president or vice president, all other candidates can elect not to speak and instead to merely have a slide with their name and statement on shown at the event or to prerecord a video should they wish. On election day students will only be entitled to one ballot paper. Ballots will then be counted and the results announced on the Friday, at which point the new exec will assume their new roles. The members of the current SU will oversee the ballot and the polling station.

If you have any more questions about standing for a position on the Students’ Union, contact any member of the current executive who will be happy to help.
