The future is Oxbridge
Once again our students have been successful in securing offers from both Oxford and Cambridge. Students have gained places across a wide range of subjects from the Arts (including offers for Law, Languages and History of Art) through to the Sciences (including Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Maths, Natural Sciences and Psychology).
These students will be joining more than 40 former Alton students who are currently reading for their degrees at Oxford and Cambridge.
Vice Principal Sara Russell said: "We are very proud of our strong tradition of supporting students to achieve their aspirations to reach both Oxford and Cambridge as well as the most selective Russell Group universities."
Students benefit from specialist Oxbridge support through the College’s More Able & Talented programme. This includes specialist help through our Applying to Competitive Courses programme, along with a designated subject specialist Oxbridge tutor to help students prepare their applications and for interview. This support has been well received by students. James Lowe, formerly at Robert May’s School and now with an offer to read Maths at Christ Church, Oxford, commented that "staff at Alton College have been extremely supportive all the way through my application. I found the mock interviews with my supervisor especially helpful as I felt prepared and more relaxed going into the real interview." Former Perins student Laurence Cooper who also has an offer to read Maths (at Robinson College, Cambridge) added that "the Applying to Competitive Courses sessions were very useful as they kept me on track with my application as well as providing essential personal statement advice."
And as the second years now focus on meeting their offers, the cycle for first year students is in full swing. Our Applying to Competitive Courses programme for first years started at the beginning of term and will run through until the summer. Over 70 potential Oxbridge applicants attended a presentation and Q&A session on Friday 8th February with Alice Wilby from St Peter's College, Oxford. Our successful second years will also soon be attending these sessions to share their words of wisdom and their experiences in helping gain these highly sought after places.
