Watercress Festival Performance
On Sunday 16th May, the Alton Area Wind Orchestra was once again invited to perform in St John's Church as part of the Alresford Watercress Festival. This has to be one of the best festivals ever to be invited to attend - a festival of food.
AAWO - run by staff from Alton College, in partnership with Hampshire Music Service and made up of pupils from local schools and students from Alton College, gave two well received performances. The ensemble's repertoire is mainly by English composers - Gustav Holst, Timothy Blinko and Philip Sparke to name but three, but AAWO finished each set with a lively rendition of music from George Bizet's well know opera Carmen - which had the audience humming in the aisles!
Whilst the young musicians [and conductors] enjoyed the break between their two sets - sampling the various foods and drinks available, a parent of one of the players commented that is was 'a lovely concert' and that the 'improvement in the ensemble [since the last concert in January] is amazing'.
The ensemble is open to school and college age students that live in the East Hampshire Area. If you are interested in joining, please contact Pande Shahov: 01420 502405.
