The Death of Colonel Boles

On 22nd April 2006, Alton College Choral Society joined forces with The Octavian Singers to recreate the Death of Colonel Boles during Alton's Civil War Weekend.

The concert was held in St Lawrence church, the original site of Boles' murder, to chilling effect. The VII movement piece, also featuring the Winchester Recorder ensemble was composed by Martin Read when he was awarded the title of Hampshire's Millennium Composer and commissioned to write the work.

The members of the College Choral Society and the Octavian Singers were lucky enough to perform on this occasion with professional cellist Joseph Spooner, conductor, Timothy Redmond and soloist Jimmy Holliday who sang the part of Colonel Boles. One student commented, "It was a thoroughly original and exciting experience!".
