The following is a summary of notices shown to students this week:-

For all Students

Simply Go - AC8 Diversion

• Works on Downing Street -26 Oct

• There is set to be some disruption to the AC8 morning journeys this Friday (26th October). Roadworks on Downing Street in Farnham will cause the morning journeys to divert via South Street and A31 to Coxbridge roundabout.

• We regret that during these works we will not be able to serve Union Road, Downing Street or any of West Street.

Jeans for Genes Day Total

• Thanks to the £120 raised by the Student Union, the new total for the Jeans for Gene's collection is £415- the biggest total ever!

• Thanks for helping children with genetic diseases!!

Reflection Week

• This week!

• Enter your ‘Student Reflections’ on Insight

• This is your assessment of how you are doing and is to help you meet your target grade

• In each of your subjects your teacher will work with you to help you reflect on your progress

After half-term you will discuss your reflections with your teachers

Volunteering

• Sporty students needed to help organise sports and games at Anstey Junior School during the children’s lunch time, 12pm – 1pm. The school is within walking distance of the College.

• If you have some free time please contact Helen Freeston , Volunteer Coordinator, Email helen.freeston@cfeh.org.uk or come to the Student Hub 10.30am – 2pm on a Tuesday (except w/c 5th & 12th Nov when Helen will be in on Wednesday instead)

Exam Information

• Important information regarding Exams will be provided during your PLD session after half term.

Winchester Uni

A meeting was held for students considering applying to Winchester University regarding the Compact Scheme - please contact Cat Holt for further details

Careers in Accountancy - Insight Days

Children in Need

  • This year will be the biggest fund raiser ever…
  • Can you offer a fundraising activity during Children in Need week?
  • All departments are contributing an event or activity, can you join in?
  • On Children in Need day –we will have a promises auction where you can offer a service or promise which others can bid for!
  • Last year’s services included: two dozen cakes, an original poem, a band night, car washing services (in swimwear!), a taxi service, dinner for two, bag carrying for the day, the list goes on……..
  • Services can be offered individually or in groups
  • Please submit your services/promises by email to the SU email address
  • The Fancy Dress Theme will be:

Student Union 2013 Executive

We are looking for a new Executive Committee to represent and act for the students at Alton College

Could you do one of these jobs?

Equality, Diversity and Welfare Officer – link with College Welfare Manager and EO&D officer, attend meetings, student perspective. Has a Sub-group to organise and co-ordinate. Helps organise Diversity Week and Health Awareness Week.

Environmental Officer – link with Estates team. Promote and support work involving other students. Link to national and local environmental campaigns. Help organise Green Week at College.

Charities Officer – organise selection of charities for College support for the year (local / national and international perspectives). Has a sub-committee group to help run the events smoothly.

• Treasurer – keep good records of SU income and expenditure. Works with finance. Identify and promote fund raising ideas. Action appropriate paperwork and reports for any spending.

• NUS officer – keep up to date with all NUS campaigns and information and brief the team. Encourage activity in College to support national campaigns and events. Visit the NUS’s national conference to help keep our SU up to date. Also with the presidents and secretary runs the student rep initiative.

• Press Officer – assist team in promotion of all work. Link with the College’s Marketing department and a sub-committee group to promote all SU events and activities. Encourage articles in ‘The Alternative’ about SU and what is happening

• Secretary – responsibility for organising Faculty and Student Services representatives in College. Key role in setting up meetings and focus groups. Working with various staff and a key link between sub-committee groups.

Treloar representative – responsible for bringing the voice of Treloar students to the Student executive. Has the opportunity to assist with a sub-committee group of own choice. Assisting with various projects. Position elected by Treloar students

1 year reps – 2 representatives elected by 1 year students and is key in getting the views of a wide range of students.

UCAS Clinics

For those of you intending to submit your application after half term…….

• A representative from the University of Portsmouth will be in the UCAS clinic from 10-12pm on Friday to read through Personal Statements. Please bring a print out.
