For All Students:

College Open Evening:-

  • Thursday 11th October
  • College finishes at 12.40pm for second year students & 1.00pm (after PLD with tutors) for first year students
  • The LRC will be open on Thursday 11th October right through until the end of Open Evening
  • See following slide for amended bus times – these will also be on Moodle/Twitter/Facebook

New Recreational Clubs:-

  • Mondays:
  • * Badminton * Girls Football * Aerobics
  • Tuesdays:
  • * Alternative sports - to include blind football, goal ball, boccia
  • Wednesdays:
  • * Basketball club
  • Thursdays:
  • * Dodgeball and table tennis
  • The clubs will be taking place in the sports hall starting at 12.40. Please all wear suitable kit.

Geology Enrichment:-

  • Mick de Pomerai would be interested to hear from any further students who wish to find out more about geology.
  • Please come to Room 907 (Beacon Centre, downstairs) Tuesday, October 9th at 1.00 pm

Rocket Scientists 2013:-

  • Science is all about questions.
  • A picture was shown about one of the topics studied by one of last year’s rocket scientists - Climate Change.
  • Is it real?
  • What causes it?
  • Has it happened before?

Who Are They?

  • Rocket Scientists can be anyone studying any subject even non scientific ones – You just need to have an interest in a science related question and have the time to research it yourself.

How much time does it take?

  • As much or as little as you can spare.
  • You decide depending on your other commitments.

How do I Join?

  • If you are interested in researching something outside the normal syllabus or maybe being involved in a current research project please contact:
  • Your resident scientist Dr. Penny Marriott on the college e-mail and come and have a chat penny.marriott@altoncollege.ac.uk

Sexual Health Clinic:-

  • Free & confidential service
  • All contraception including the Pill, Patch, Injection, Emergency Contraception, Pregnancy testing, Chlamydia Screening and Condoms
  • Also advice on Coil and Implant and any other issues
  • Every Friday from 12.15pm to 2.00pm
  • Rooms 504 – 505 in the Student Hub – please use the Austen end entrance (orange door).

For First Years:

Reminder! More Able and Talented meeting:-

  • On Friday 5th October we will be launching our ‘More Able and Talented’ programme for the coming academic year.
  • Students who performed very strongly in their GCSE’s will already have had an email invitation.
  • Anyone else is welcome to attend but will need to book a place by signing up at the Hub.

For Second Years:

College UCAS Deadlines:-

  • Advisory Deadline: 22nd October
  • Meet this if you can
  • But, don’t rush if you are not ready…..
  • We’d rather have a strong application after half-term than a rushed one before
  • Final Deadline: 26th November

Personal Statement Help:-

  • A representative from the University of Portsmouth will be visiting College to provide advice on Personal Statements for any course at any university (not just at Portsmouth)
  • Bring a print out of your draft statement to the UCAS Clinic (room 403) on:
  • Monday 8th October (2-4pm)
  • Friday 12th October (10am-12pm)
  • Take advantage of this valuable opportunity to get advice from a university perspective.
