REMINDER - IMPORTANT Dates/Events for Students

The Alternative

Volunteering opportunity at Andrews Endowed Holybourne

  • Andrews Endowed Holybourne are holding a summer fair on the 20 June 2015 between 11am-2pm and require help with manning stalls and helping out in the café
  • If you are interested in helping out with the above or want to find out more about the volunteering opportunities available, please see Janet Duggan on Tuesdays in the Hub from 10.30am-2pm

For 1st year students on a 2 year course:

Your Year 2 choices

  • Please visit Insight to select your Year 2 programme by the 27th March
  • Students should take 3 subjects to A2
  • BTEC 90-CreditDiploma students excluded (any issues talk to your tutor)
  • We recommend all lessons are attended to the end of the Summer Term in case results change your mind
  • See handout from your tutor for further info (Tutors: these will be in PLD pigeon holes by Thursday)

Compulsory Personal Statement presentations

  • We have arranged for representatives from universities to provide talks on Personal Statements
  • Even if you are not considering going to university you will still need to have a Personal Statement
  • The talks have been arranged as follows and will be held in the Martin Read Hall:-
    • All ‘A’ PLD groups Thu 19 th March @ 12.50pm
    • All ‘N’ PLD groups Thu 26 th March @ 12.50pm
    • All ‘F’ PLD groups Thu 2 nd April @ 12.50pm
  • These are compulsory for all first year students to attend, along with their tutors

University of Roehampton - RoePact Compact Scheme

  • The University of Roehampton have a compact scheme with Alton College
  • The scheme offers a range of exclusive events designed to ease your transition to university and students also receive a 40 point lower tariff offer (subject to eligibility)
  • Eligibility requirements – you can join if:
    • You are a Y12 student and are interested in studying at Roehampton
    • You have the required GCSEs to study your chosen course
  • To gain the 40 point lower tariff offer:
    • You must attend compulsory events in year 12 and 13 and make Roehampton your firm choice when making your final choice of university in year 13 - You don’t need to know if it will be your firm choice yet - you can decide this after you receive all of your offers.

  • Liberate the Leader in You
  • Monday 30th March, 10am-4pm
  • At the University of Roehampton
  • 1 day campus event designed to provide a unique opportunity for students to develop and enhance their leadership skills to support the transition period from college to university or the world of work
  • Includes campus tour and Q&A with Roehampton students – gain a real insight into what university life is really all about

University of Reading - Food Sciences Summer School

  • 6-8th July
  • For Y12 students interested in careers in Chemistry or Biology
  • Chance to carry out a variety of applied practicals investigating wide ranging aspects of food science; from flavour technologies to foods as

Replying to Uni Offers

  • If you are at the stage of replying to your university offers, please remember to give this careful thought
  • Your firm acceptance is your first choice – if your firm choice is a conditional offer you should accept another offer as an insurance choice
  • We strongly advise that you select an insurance offer that is safe and within your current working at grades
  • Your insurance should ask for lower grades than your firm

How and when to reply to offers

  • Use Track to reply to your offers ( https://track.ucas.com/ )
  • Your reply date will be displayed in Track and is based on when the last decision is received from your choices so it may be different to other people.
    • Last Decision by: 31Mar15 - Your Reply Date: 06May15
    • Last Decision by: 07May15 - Your Reply Date: 04Jun15

UCAS Extra

  • If you've used five choices you may be able to use Extra if:
    • you've received decisions from all five universities and colleges and you weren't accepted or you decided to decline any offers you received
    • You'll then see the 'Add an Extra choice' button in Track - you will then be able to apply for one course at one university at a time 
  • If you didn't use five choices you can add more in Track:
    • providing it's before 30 June and you've not accepted or declined your offers
