General Election Hustings

  • Tuesday 21st April
  • 1pm-2pm in the Martin Read Hall
  • General Election Hustings with the Prospective Parliamentary Candidates from the following parties:
    • Damian Hinds Conservative Party
    • Peter Bisset Green Party
    • Alex Wilks Labour Party
    • Richard Robinson Liberal Democrats
    • Peter Baillie UKIP
  • All students are invited to attend

Exam Presentation

  • During next weeks PLD session you will be shown a short presentation on ‘Essential Examination Information’ by your tutor
  • It is vital that ALL students receive this information

Revision

  • A revision tracker sheet and other useful information can be found on Moodle under Student Resources / Exams Help
  • Speak to your subject teachers if you need help with revision

Exam Stress getting you down?

  • Panic? Freeze? Can’t remember even though you have been revising?
  • Come to the Exam Stress Busting workshops
  • Learn and practice simple techniques to help you to remain calm and so do your best
    • Tuesday 28th April – 1 to 1.45pm
    • Tuesday 5th May – 1 to 1.45pm

  • The Volunteer Co-ordinator will not be in the Student Hub until Tuesday 5th May

For 1st Years on a 2 Year course:

Your Year 2 Choices

  • You should now have selected your Year 2 programme on Insight (excluding BTEC 90 Credit/Extended Diploma students)
  • We strongly advise that all lessons are attended to July in case results change your mind
  • Your tutor will be checking your choices and arranging 121s if necessary
  • During w/c 27th April forms will be available from the Student Hub for students wishing to continue 4 subjects to Year 2, or pick up a new course – these must be returned by half term

Personal Statement Presentations

Student Mentors/Ambassadors

We are again offering the opportunity for students to become Student Mentors/ Ambassadors.

  • Ideal candidates will be:
    • Achieving at or above their target grades
    • Have very good attendance
    • Display strong communication skills
  • Benefits for the students:
    • Excellent volunteering addition for Personal Statement
    • Volunteering Certificate
    • Personal Skills development and training this term
    • Free T-Shirts!
  • What the role involves:
    • Student Hosts at New Student Welcome Event on Thursday 9th July and Induction Day Monday 7th September
    • Linking to first year PLD groups during the Autumn term
    • Talking to first years about how to succeed at College
    • Signposting first years to College support
  • We really need nominations from all PLD groups to ensure we can give first year groups a good level of support
    • AS groups and BTEC groups
    • and some that would be happy to support BTEC Level 1 and 2
  • Our target is to have 2 students to link to each PLD group - All Personal tutors please nominate to link 4 students
  • Please discuss with your Personal Tutor - Tutor to email Jan Symes with a list of student names

University of Surrey - Year 12 - FREE Summer Schools

  • Young Persons University Summer School – 4 day residentials
  • 14 different subjects available:

  • Includes: Travel, accommodation on campus and meals
  • Priority given to students who meet certain criteria.

For Second Years:

Locker Key Refunds

  • As you will know, all locker keys must be returned to the Student Hub before you leave College in order to obtain a £10 cash refund
  • You must have completed your exams and emptied your lockers before returning your key
  • Locker keys must be returned to the Student Hub between Mon 11th May and Mon 6th July
  • Please do not try to return your key for a refund before the above dates
  • (Students continuing for another year MUST also return their locker keys by the 6th July)

UCAS - Replying to Offers

  • Make sure you log on to UCAS Track to check the date that you need to reply to your offers by ( https://track.ucas.com/ )
  • Don’t miss your date – if you do UCAS will decline all offers on your behalf!
    • Last Decision by: 31Mar15–your Reply Date: 06May15
    • Last Decision by: 07May15–your Reply Date: 04Jun15

Student Finance Applications for University

  • The Student Finance deadline of the 30th May is rapidly approaching
  • If you don’t apply by this date you may not get the money in time for the start of your university course
  • Apply online at www.gov.uk/studentfinance
  • If you’ve already started your application, log back in and finish before the deadline
  • You don’t need a confirmed place to apply, apply using your preferred university/course and change later if need be
  • If your application is late, your money might be too!
