Worried about your exams…….

  • Follow these helpful hints:-
    • Think carefully about how to prioritise time
    • Tackle the tough stuff
    • Revisit and revise revision timetables
    • Practice under exam conditions
    • Understand the mark scheme
    • Create a great space for learning
    • Take proper breaks
    • Eat and sleep well
    • Compare yourself only to yourself
  • Remember: it’s never too late – there’s always something you can do to ensure you are better prepared for your exams

Study Leave:

  • If you have an exam in the MORNING you must attend all subsequent lessons that day
  • If you have an exam in the AFTERNOON session you do not need to attend College in the morning but must attend any lesson after the exam has finished
  • If you are taking a RESIT or a MOCK exam, you are NOT entitled to any study leave

General Election 2015

  • Have your voice heard!
  • The General Election is on Thursday 7th May
  • Vote for your choice of party using the Moodle voting page and the results will be announced on Friday 8th May

Rocket Science Lecture

  • The Rocket Science Lecture for 2015
  • Friday 26th June @ 7pm
  • In the Wessex Arts Centre
  • This year’s Rocket Science students will present their research findings
  • Topics covered this year range from quantum computing to Space weather and the Big Bang and religion
  • It’s always an interesting evening

Careers Drop in

  • Please note there will be no Careers drop-in sessions this week (w/c 4th May)

Lockers

  • We still have lockers available for students to hire over the exam period
  • £10 to be paid through the online store or by cash at the Student Hub
  • All locker keys MUST be returned to the Hub by Monday 6th July where you will receive a £10 refund
  • You are not permitted to keep the key and use the locker in September. All lockers will be emptied over the summer and reallocated during the next academic year

For 1st Year students on a 2 year course:

Explanation of Reading Week

  • 25 – 29 May is Half Term
  • 01 – 05 June is Reading Week
  • Many students will have finished their exams by this time. This week is a time to prepare for the second year of your studies. You should enrol on the Moodle courses for the subjects you are taking (e.g. taking Economics AS, enrol on Economics A2). In each course you should spend time reading about the units you will study and familiarising yourself with the Directed Learning tasks / information.

  • Make the most of them:
  • Plan your day – which area of the uni do you want to visit?
  • Make notes – to make comparisons later
  • Speak to current students
  • Ask lots of questions
  • Get an email address to keep in touch

Southampton Solent Residential Summer Schools

Thinking about studying at the Uni of Southampton?

  • Access to Southampton Scheme 2016 entry
  • The Access to Southampton scheme (A2S) provides financial support and special consideration to applicants who meet at least 2 of the following eligibility criteria: a) first in family to pursue HE (excluding siblings); b) attended a secondary school achieving less than the national average of 5 A*-C GCSE passes in 2014; c) living or grew up in public care; d) in receipt of 16-19 Bursary or similar grant; e) studies affected by circumstances in personal, social or domestic life.
  • Successful applicants receive an alternative offer which is normally up to 2 grades below the standard offer as well as a £1000 bursary in their first year of study

UCAS & Student Finance – reminders

  • Don’t miss your reply deadline – log on to UCAS track to check
    • If you received your last uni decision by 31MAR15 you MUST reply by 06MAY15
    • Don’t miss your deadline – you’ll lose your place!
  • Student Finance
    • Make sure you complete your Finance application by the 30th May – if you don’t you may not receive your money in time for the start of your Uni course
    • If you have deferred you entry to 2016 apply next year between Feb-May

Drama / Poetry Scholarships
