For ALL students

Student ID Cards….

  • All students must ensure they carry their College ID at all times and are able to show it to College staff if requested to do so
  • Only students who are currently studying at College are allowed on site. Former students should not be on site, unless invited by a member of staff, and will be asked to leave

Whilst waiting for the bus…

  • A polite request for students not to sit on garden walls adjacent to the bus stop in Greenfields Avenue. This is private property which has been damaged by students whilst waiting for the bus

Thank you!

  • Thank you to all of the students and staff who bought a cake or made a contribution to the Macmillan Coffee morning
  • We are delighted to have raised £261.82

College Open Evening

  • Thank you to all students that helped within subjects or around College last Thursday.
  • Don’t forget to enter the hours you helped on page 106 of your diary and ask a teacher to sign
  • 50 hours volunteering (inside or outside of College) will gain you a Lions Volunteering Silver Certificate, and 100 hours for Gold

Alton College Rugby Team

  • Alton College Rugby won their first round Natwest Cup Match on Wednesday against St John’s College, Portsmouth - The team showed great determination and solid defence to keep out a noticeably larger St John’s side to win 21 – 15
  • They have now won 3 games out of 3 and have a Hampshire Cup quarter final match against Barton Peveril College on
  • Wednesday at Anstey Park - kick off at 2pm

Crossbar Challenge

  • 10th October from 3.30pm to 4.30pm
  • In the Alton College Sports Hall
  • £5 per team + 50p entry to watch
  • Come join our Cross Bar tournament to help raise money for the Macmillan Charity. If you are interested in joining put your name down on the poster on the noticeboard by the Sports Hall letting us know who is in your team and your team name

Inset Day

  • Tuesday 14th October
  • The College will be closed to all students for a Staff training day – the LRC will also be closed.
  • Your teachers will be giving you work to do so that you can study at home.

Transport Issues:

  • It has been brought to our attention that students are having issues with the Stagecoach Bus services to and from College.
  • Students can raise complaints – they make a difference (one already has changed issues with the 18x!)
  • In our meeting with Governors’ on Friday 3rd October we discussed the formal procedure to do this at college – Speak to the Hub for details!

Jobs Board

  • A suggestion was made that a jobs board should be put in the Ref
  • Unfortunately this cannot happen for logistical reasons
  • A reminder that there is a Job Vacancies forum on Moodle under Student Resources which is constantly being updated

ACSU Scotland Referendum Results

  • We conducted a College vote a couple weeks ago to assess the position of the students on the Scotland Referendum Situation.
  • Nearly 100 votes casted
  • 85% said no to independent Scotland
  • 15% said yes to independent Scotland

  • Are you interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths (STEM) or related subjects?
  • Headstart is a summer school placement at a choice of top universities where you can experience university life, explore your options and decide if a course is right for you

  • Check that you are up to date with your College work
  • …and that you are using your Directed Study time effectively
  • If you get behind now it is very difficult to catch up on your studies
  • If needed talk to your teachers/tutor to help you write an action plan

For Second Year students:

UCAS

  • Have you looked at your UCAS application since registering in the LRC back in July?
  • Log on to www.UCAS.com and complete the following sections - using the yellow 'Completing your UCAS Application' booklet (also available on Moodle /Student Resources/HE):
  • * Personal Details * Additional Information * Student Finance * Employment * Education
  • Then attend a UCAS to have these sections signed off
  • You can then concentrate on your university/course choices and personal statement
  • Getting the above sections signed off will speed things up greatly when you attend a Clinic to finalise your application
  • Still unsure as to what to do ? - Sign up at the Hub to attend a UCAS clinic - we're here to help !

UCAS – College Deadlines

  • 24th October - Advisory Deadline for A-level students
  • 14th November - Advisory Deadline for BTEC Ext Dip students
  • 24th November - FINAL College deadline
  • Note : If you miss the 24th November deadline we cannot guarantee that your UCAS application will meet the 15th January deadline!
