Bursaries 2015-2016

  • If you receive a bursary this year or think you might now be eligible, you must apply by collecting, completing and returning a 2015/16 application – available from the Student Hub
  • The 16-19 Discretionary Bursary fund aims to help you with the cost of your course. Transport and equipment (including books) are considered priority
  • To qualify your household income must be under £22,000 and if your household income is under £16,190 from September 2015 you will also be eligible for free College meals
  • You may also be entitled to the 16-19 Vulnerable £1,200 Bursary – see Bursary form for details

Student Mentors/Ambassadors

  • Congratulations to all those who have been nominated as Student Mentors/Ambassadors (I still have a few Tutors who haven’t given me any names so do check with your Tutor if you are unsure)
  • Training sessions will be:
    • Tuesdays 16th, 23rd, 30th June, 12.45-1.30pm, DLC
    • I will contact you via Moodle notices so please remember to check your College emails
  • Dates for your diaries:
    • Open Afternoon/Evening on Wednesday 24th June
    • New Student Welcome Event on Thursday 9th July
    • Induction Day Monday 7th September
  • Jan, Welfare Manager, Student Hub

College Open Evening

  • Wednesday 24th June
  • From 3.30pm – 8.00pm
  • Lessons will finish at 12.40pm
  • Buses have been rearranged and will depart College at 1.00pm
  • Please speak to your subject teachers to see how you can help

For all students with lockers

  • ALL locker keys must be returned to the Student Hub by Monday 6th July for a £10 cash refund. Locker keys cannot be kept and used for the next academic year
  • You must clear your locker as they are emptied and cleaned over the holidays. No responsibility will be taken for any items left behind
  • Lockers for 2015-16 will be issued during September

Chlamydia Testing

  • Friday 12th June
  • In the Refectory from 12-2pm
  • Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the UK.
  • 64% of people diagnosed with chlamydia were under 25 years old
  • Most people who have chlamydia don’t notice any symptoms, and so don't know they have it.
  • Get a FREE test, condoms and freebies!

UCAS 2016 Registration Day

  • In order to apply to university you must REGISTER for UCAS – ALL students must attend one of the following sessions in the LRC:-
  • On Friday 26th June
  • @ 9.30am / 10am / 10.30am / 11am / 11.30am / 12pm / 1.30pm / 2pm / 2.30pm / 3pm / 3.30pm / 4pm
  • YOU MUST be in the LRC 5mins before the session start time to allow for logging on. Late comers will be turned away to attend the next session
  • You will then be provided with further information on applying through UCAS on the 2nd July

Progression Fair

  • Thursday 2nd July – 11.25am to 3.00pm
  • Timetabled lessons will be replaced by a programme for all including:
  • Presentations by Whatuni, visits to the Fair, sessions on Finance and UCAS applications
  • There will be over 80 exhibitors * Uni’s * Gap Year organisations * Employers * Apprenticeships * Volunteering
  • You will be given a timetable for the above in PLD on the 25th June

HEAP 2016

  • HEAP is the most popular Higher Education research book that students and staff use
  • Search by course or by university
  • Copies of HEAP 2016 are now available in the Student Hub
  • HEAP is also available online – please go to Moodle / Student Resources / Higher Education / Researching your courses for registration details

Volunteering Opportunities

  • FitzRoy’s Summer Club are looking for volunteers to help with their Summer Club in August
  • The Summer Club will run from 3rd-20th August (Mon-Thu)
  • Andrews Endowed School in Holybourne are looking for volunteers to help with their Summer Fair on the 20th June
  • Lots of opportunities for volunteering in Sports Clubs in various locations. Including Football, Tennis, Volleyball, Runners Club, Basketball, Canoeing and many others

Intending to Study Medicine or Dentistry at Uni?

  • Registration for the UKCAT (UK Clinical Aptitude Test) is now available at
  • Registration closes on the 22nd September and testing takes place from 1st July-6th October
  • Practising UKCAT questions under realistic time constraints is key for scoring highly
