Doing GCSE Mathematics at Alton College you will study:

- Algebra and Graphs
- Ratio and Proportion
- Geometry & Measures
- Probability & Statistics

100% exams, consisting of 3 exam papers, each 1½ hours long.

Lesson activities are wide ranging, from classroom discussions on how best to mathematically model a situation, to practising problem solving questions in pairs. You’ll use MyMaths on PCs to practice your skills and Kahoot quizzes on your smart phones to try to beat the rest of the class.

The main aim of the course will be for students to gain a grade 4 (or 5) and thus the focus of the teaching will be at Foundation tier.

Past students have found the course very rewarding but sometimes difficult. Different students enjoy varying parts of the course. The greatest pleasure comes from gaining in confidence and realising you can do Maths!

Grade C or D in Certificate in Use of Maths;

or a pass in Maths Functional Skills Level 2.

Student Course Materials, including two revision workbooks, IT resources, ruler, protractor, compass, pen, pencil, rubber & notebook: ≈ £12.50

You must also have a scientific calculator with natural display, such as the Casio FX-83GT+ or FX-85GT+.
