Course Content:

At Alton College on the Photography A-Level you will study:

  • A range of projects that explore different aspects of Art and Design e.g. Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Illustration, Photography, Fine Art, 3D. Look at www.btecartblog.blogspot.co.uk for more detail.
  • How to use a range of Art and Design materials and approaches effectively such as painting, printmaking, sculpture, Adobe Photoshop, photography, graphic layout, drawing, garment making, illustration.
  • A specialist creative pathway in year 2 that allows you to explore this way of working in depth.
  • The course concludes with a final major project in which you choose and investigate a creative topic that fits in with your skills and progression ambitions.

Assessment:

100% Coursework (some examined Units may be introduced)

Studying at Alton College:

This is a highly practical full time course, lesson activities include plenty of time to develop your project work with guidance from Tutors alongside workshop sessions where new skills are delivered and critical discussion of student’s  and Artist’s work.
An Extended Diploma qualification in Art and Design allows direct progression to creative degrees. On the course we give comprehensive support and guidance with compiling your portfolio and statement for application to Higher Education. Typically, students go on to study illustration, fine art, graphic design, fashion design, 3D design, photography, textile design and animation.

Entry requirements:

Students should normally have achieved at least five GCSEs at grade 9-4. For GCSEs which remain with the old grading system, a Grade 4 is equivalent to a Grade C. Alternatively, if you have studied at Level 2, you should have achieved a merit or above. Vocational courses are an ideal qualification for students who prefer coursework.

To study this course, you should have achieved a grade 5 in a technical or creative subject.

Printing and Art Materials  around £40/term.
Optional trips from £15 each.
