  • Using professional software to design and test electronic circuits
  • Learning about industrial practices and the influences of business in engineering.
  • Learning how to design outcomes to have a reduced impact on the environment.
  • Planning, organising and reviewing your work on an ongoing basis.

Studying at Alton College:

Practical work is just one element of the course.  Most lessons will be taught in our new state-of-the art Sonardyne Technology Centre. This has an electronics lab, CAD room and two superbly equipped engineering workshops. For much of your time on the course you will be carrying out assignment based projects. Indeed all of the units you cover are assessed by coursework type projects and tasks. At the beginning of the second year you will carry out a work experience placement at one of a wide range of local companies. The College will help you to identify a suitable placement.

Entry requirements:

Students should normally have achieved at least five GCSEs at grade 9-4. It is essential that you have gained at least grade 4 or above in Maths GCSE and a Science GCSE at grade 5 or above. Alternatively, if you have studied at Level 2, you should have achieved a merit or above. Vocational courses are an ideal qualification for students who prefer coursework.
