You will study:

  • Human Lifespan Development (90 minute exam)
  • Working in Health and Social Care (90 minute exam)
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care (90 minute exam)
  • Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care (Externally set task)
  • Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs (coursework)
  • Work Experience in Health and Social Care (coursework)
  • Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care (coursework)
  • Promoting Public Health (coursework)
  • And a range of other science and social based units.


42% external assessment, 58% coursework

You will be required to achieve 100 hours of work experience

Studying at Alton College:

You will have a mixture of formal and less formal learning experiences. Some sessions will be in the form of lectures but you will also participate in a mixture of activities – whether working individually or in groups. You will participate in role plays, discussions and presentations.

Entry requirements:

A*- C grade profile at GCSE.

Alternatively, a merit or above at level 2.

Either maths or English GCSE grade 4 or above

To study this course, you should have an interest in working with people. You must have a clear DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. It is very important as we must be confident to send you out on placement to work with vulnerable people.
