Course Content:

At Alton College on the Options course you will study:

  • English Functional Skills
  • Maths Functional Skills
  • ICT Functional Skills

You will also study units that may include:

  • Catering
  • Sport
  • Horticulture
  • Media
  • Art
  • Travel and Tourism
  • Music
  • Engineering

As well as studying these different units you will also undertake one day a week of work experience.

 

Studying at Alton College:

You will be taught by a small team of teachers and most classes will be supported by Learning Support Assistants.  You will complete assignments to gain the credits you need to obtain the qualification.  The assessments will consist of some written work but also require you to complete practical tasks.  You will regularly spend time with your tutor where you will monitor your progress and set your own learning targets.

Entry requirements:

A positive attitude to learning and a willingness to undertake work experience.

Course costs:

All students will be expected to provide their own stationery required for lessons.

Any further costs are outlined below:

Compulsory: Work experience uniform - £15

Advisable: Field Trips £50 

Catering module requests a financial contribution of £30

 After completing this course

Having successfully completed the Options Programme students have progressed onto other courses within the Foundation Learning department such as the Level 1 Vocational Studies course or Expressions Programme.

The course allows students to develop their knowledge and experience of the working world and has resulted in some students gaining employment opportunities from their work placement.
