Life after college

What are your next options?

Whether you are staying in education, starting an apprenticeship or going on to start a new job, we are here to help you with advice and guidance with life after college. Throughout the year, there are workshops and clinics which will help you along the way to reach the route you want to take. Some of these include –
  • CV writing
  • Applying to university
  • Funding and finance evenings
  • UCAS clinics
  • Careers consultations

So, what does life after college look like for you?

We will offer you career and higher education advice throughout your time with us. Your tutor and teachers help ensure that you are thinking about the right things at the right time.

The Student Hub contains a careers library with a wide variety of information on universities, jobs, training and gap year opportunities. When you need individual professional advice, you can drop in to see the Careers Adviser.

We realise that university isn’t for everyone, so we’ll give you whatever support you need if you’re planning on going into employment. On campus, we have a careers advisor who you can see, whether you want to find out about local opportunities, would like help with your CV or just want to know what your options are.

We hold a Progression Fair at Alton Campus each June/July where employers will be available to talk to you and give you more advice. There are workshops to help you with your CV writing and others to help you with the options available to you.

At HSDC, we will encourage you to think about work experience and voluntary work to help you build the skills that will be useful in the marketplace. If you are considering a BTEC, you may find that work experience is included in the course.

If you are a former student of Alton College/HSDC Alton and are intending to apply through UCAS, please email UCASadmin@alton.hsdc.ac.uk. You will then be sent information on how to apply.

When you are ready to apply, please follow the steps below.  This will help us to help you make sure everything runs smoothly.

UCAS PROCESS FOR HSDC ALTON

1. Once you are sent information on how to apply, use the buzzword from the Checklist you are given to register as an HSDC Alton student. Please make sure you do this instead of registering as an independent applicant. Select “Ex Student” as your application group. If you have already started an ‘independent’ application, please follow the instructions on the checklist to link your application to the College or email UCASadmin@alton.hsdc.ac.uk.

2. Complete all sections of the UCAS application but do not click on Pay/Send at this point.  Please email UCASadmin@alton.hsdc.ac.uk and we will check through your application online and advise you to either make amendments or complete the pay/send section. If you need help with your Personal Statement, please contact your former tutor/teachers or email UCASadmin@alton.hsdc.ac.uk.

3. Once you have completed the application including the pay/send section, please fill in the checklist and email it through to the email address shown.

4. As a former student there are two fees to pay:
a) UCAS fee (£26 or £20 if you are applying to one university for one course only). This will be paid online as you complete the pay/send section.
b) College Administration fee (£30). This should be paid by clicking here.

5. We will contact academic staff and request a reference. Please note this can take up to 15 College days (excluding weekends/term holidays) – please do not chase prior to the 15 day deadline.

If you are a former student of Havant or South Downs Campus and are intending to apply through UCAS, please email sarah.street@hsdc.ac.uk. You will then be sent information on how to apply.
