This is a one year course that enables you to improve your general
education and to explore various vocational areas. The areas explored could include Health and Social Care, Business and IT. The
course will be tailored to the individual interests of students following the course. Work experience is an important part of the course. You will have a one week work experience placement
during the year. Teaching is undertaken in small groups that will be well supported by learning support assistants. Assessment is by regular coursework. If you are successful you will have the opportunity to progress to a BTEC First Diploma in a vocational area of your choice. Alternatively, the course prepares you for
further training or employment. You will usually combine the course with qualifications in English and Mathematics.
English – Functional Skills Level 1 and Level 2
This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge that employers say are essential for the workplace. You will develop enhanced reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and use computers to produce work.
Mathematics – Functional Skills Level 1 and Level 2
You will acquire practical Maths skills that you can apply at work and in everyday life. You will leave the course feeling more confident and will have a functional skills qualification at the appropriate level.
